Playa Punta Esmeralda is a uniquely beautiful beach that is situated on the shores of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It is one of Quintana Roo’s most interesting beaches as it features a swimmable freshwater lagoon and magical little turquoise blue cenote called, Cenote Punta Esmeralda.
Playa Punta Esmeralda is located away from the busy downtown area and is typically more popular among the locals and tourists who are renting out of the city. The beach is excellent for families with small children as the lagoon makes the perfect shallow kiddie pool. The lagoon is also an excellent spot for kids to enjoy snorkeling and viewing the unique freshwater fish that call it home.
The beach itself features lovely white sand and is great for swimming in the calm and shallow waters of the Caribbean Sea. On one side of the beach is a shaded area where there are picnic tables and a playground for children. There are not many vendors or places to get food and drinks, so be sure to bring your own stuff.
