Cerro de la Calavera (Skull Hill) is situated in La Paz, Mexico, and is a unique and breathtakingly beautiful destination located in the state of Baja California Sur. Situated at the head of a small mountain range, it’s home to one of North America's most extensive limestone formations, called Sierra de las Cacachilas. It is known as “The Skull Hill” or “Calavera La Paz” due to the skull-like shape the mountain resembles from certain vantage points. From its peak, you can enjoy magnificent views over the Sea of Cortez and the vast desert littered with giant cardon cacti and other species of desert plants. The area is also home to several interesting cave formations that have archaeological sites, and ceremonial centers that were once used by the region’s ancient peoples.

The hike is part of a larger trail system and hikers can hike all day if they like. That being said most people come to the trail just to watch the sunset from the beautiful rock formations that were created by wind and erosion over time.
