Mirador de la Cruz is a hiking trail that is situated atop a small mountain in the town of Mascota, Mexico. Mascota is a sleepy Mexican village located high in the Sierra Madre mountains of Jalisco and is a designated Pueblos Magicos town. Ascending the Mirador de la Cruz to watch sunsets is a favorite activity amongst locals and offers spectacular panoramic views of the town below, the valley, and the flowing river called the Rio Mascota.
The hike itself takes around an hour and is 0.75-miles roundtrip from the bottom of the mountain. Ten minutes into the hike visitors will reach Mirador Guadalupe, which features an interesting little church that overlooks Mascota. Hikers can choose to stop here or continue hiking the 464 steps to the top. At the top, there is a giant metal cross (la cruz) where one can choose to do prayers or meditate.

How to Get to Mirador de la Cruz
To reach the mirador from Plaza Principal, hikers will need to head east on Calle Morelos for 0.5 km to reach the base of the mountain. From the bottom, follow the dirt road to Mirador Guadalupe and then continue on to the summit, which is (1,345 m / 4,412 ft) above sea level for 336 feet gain in elevation.
