How to Get to McDougall Rim

When looking to access McDougall Rim Trail, there are multiple routes depending on your starting point. In our case, traveling from Vernon, the northern neighboring city, we had the opportunity to embark on the enchanting and picturesque Westside Road. This charming pathway winds alongside the stunning Okanagan Lake, guiding you through quaint resort towns and First Nations territories. Although this may be the longer route, it grants the benefit of an uninterrupted journey, free from congestion, and instead grants the opportunity to relish in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Okanagan region.

The most common and time-efficient method for accessing the trail embraces crossing the bridge over Okanagan Lake from Kelowna into West Kelowna and then taking a right turn onto Bartley Road. Proceed along Bartley Road until you spot the Niche Wine Company, indicating your proximity to the trail. A brief journey ahead will reveal the trailhead located in a clearing on your right-hand side. At this point, multiple route options will present themselves, but we opted to ascend the mountain directly via a steep ATV trail. Although challenging, this decision undoubtedly facilitated a more expedited climb to the summit.

Conclusion

The McDougall Rim Trail is a great way to get some good exercise and take in the gorgeous views of Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. It is the perfect day hike and I highly recommend it, but if you like to challenge yourself head all the way to Hayman Lake for the day.

I suggest Hiking the trail early in the morning to beat the summertime Okanagan heat, afterward, you could head down to Bernard Street for refreshments and then go take a dip in the lake and enjoy one of the many picturesque beaches Kelowna has to offer.
