Playa San Pancho
About Playa San Pancho, Mexico
Playa San Pancho is a spectacular stretch of fine white sand and is the main attraction of a town called San Francisco or San Pancho as it is more commonly referred to as. San Pancho lies along the coast of Mexico on the Pacific Ocean side of the country in the beautiful state of Nayarit. The town is close neighbors with the popular surfing destination known as Sayulita and is a short around ten-minute drive away.
The beach itself is the most popular attraction in San Pancho and visiting it should be a priority when in the area. Playa San Pancho is certainly picturesque with the lush jungle-covered Sierra Madre mountains as a backdrop while the blue Pacific sits in the foreground and creates a magical contrast.
San Pancho Beach is one of the cleanest and most pristine beaches in the Riviera Nayarit and in fact it could be argued that it is one of the cleanest in all of Mexico. Most of the locals of the region are close to Mother Nature taking pride in their surroundings by cleaning up the trash that ends up on the beach. Aside from being cleaner, It is also much quieter compared to some of the other beaches in Nayarit and doesn’t have a ton of vendors and salesmen constantly trying to sell you their products. You can simply bring your own towel or rent a table at one of the local beach bars and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while listening to the crashing of the waves.
Much like Sayulita, Playa San Pancho is considered one of the best surfing spots in Mexico and is fastly becoming very popular among the surf community. That being said the waves at Playa San Pancho are not for beginner surfers and are more suited for intermediate or advanced surfers.
Playa San Pancho is a great place for a nice long beach walk and at the south end, there is a creek and a lagoon which can be crossed and will lead to an even quieter beach called Playa San Panchito.
